The AIDS Orphans Support Trust
TAOST is a Ugandan NGO that was started in the year 2003 amidst realization of an enormous number of Orphans without anybody to take care and widows without the capacity to care for their families.
This was found to be largely due to the effect of HIV/AIDS.
TAOST was therefore started to support families affected by HIV/AIDS to effect a positive change that is sustainable through capacity building and advocacy.
TAOST therefore considered the underlying causes to create an integrated approach to problem solving. These underlying causes included: Poverty, Culture and gender imbalance, which have become a major springboard for the spread of HIV/AIDS.
HIV is a serious health/social and economic problem affecting women, men, youth and children. An estimated 36 million people are infected with HIV/AIDS, and it has claimed 22 million people in the world since it was discovered.
